A total of eight fire extinguishers were put to use to douse off the flames at SJKC Chung Hua Debak before firemen arrived, said the Fire and Rescue Department via a statement.

The blaze which had caused 20 per cent damages to the administration block of the school, started occurring around 6.15pm.

No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.

Firemen from Betong station led by its chief Vincent Baling Yabi, were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arriving, they found that the flames had already been extinguished by several teachers and members of the school staff.

The team only carried out ventilation to air out the smoke from the affected room and put out the remaining embers.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
