Sri Aman’s sixth flood of the year

Firefighters using a portable pump to pump flood waters out from the longhouse yesterday (16 Nov).

SRI AMAN: Sixty-seven residents in TR Morin longhouse, Lingga, were affected by flash floods yesterday.

According to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak, this flood is Sri Aman’s sixth flood during the year 2020. The first flood occurred on the 5th of March, 2020, it’s second on the 11th of March, its third was on the 21st of April, its fourth, on the 17th of May and the fifth flood were on the 18th of July 2020.

Sri Aman fire station received a distress call on the incident around half-past eight and despatched a Bravo team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team found the longhouse was three feet deep in waters due to high tide. However, the waters began to recede when the fire fighters arrived at the scene.

It was reported that the 14-door longhouse is inhabited by 30 women, 23 men and 14 children.

The team proceeded to pump the stagnant water out from the longhouse using a portable pump.

Longhouse residents were also instructed to break the blockade at each door to ease the water flow out.
