MUKAH: The five per cent state sales tax (SST) on petroleum products export received by the Sarawak government from Petronas and other similar companies for 2019 and subsequent years would definitely help the state in its annual expenditure.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said the additional income received would be used to finance the development of infrastructure and other necessary projects for the people.

He said the payment of RM2.95 billion SST by Petronas was most welcomed.

“It shows that Petronas recognises Sarawak’s rights to claim five per cent SST as listed the State Sales Tax Ordinance 1998,” he said last Sunday (Sept 20).

He added that the payment solved the issue in a win-win-situation, and congratulated the GPS state government.

“I thank Petronas and the federal government for recognising Sarawak’s rights over the matter (SST).”

Meanwhile, Yussibnosh also hoped that allocation be provided for the much-awaited proposed Mukah riverfront project here. He revealed that a proposal had been forwarded to the state government after the last state election, through a working paper prepared by the Drainage and Irrigation Department.
