KUCHING: Some St Jos eph Secondary School old boys have taken up the family challenge to raise funds to restore the deemed unsafe Mill Hill Block of classrooms. This time around, a total of RM102, 500 was pledged by Class ‘77 in the hope to add on substantially to the total sum collected so far by Class ‘79 and Class ‘83-85.
The cheque was presented to the President of Old Josephians’ Association Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian in the school premises. During a cheerful banter over a cuppa in the well-loved school canteen, the Class ‘77 members joked about their concerted efforts to have outdone their predecessors.
Those present were Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Cul ture, Youth and Spor t s ; Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Vice-chancellor of Unimas, Dr Dennis Kong and some of their peers who have their alma mater at heart. It is hoped that the restoration fund continues to grow by leaps and bounds so that the restoration of the Mill Hill Block is realistic and viable.
In conjunction with the school’s celebration of the 135th Anniversar y this year, which culminates in a grand reunion dinner on the 17 November, it is needless to say that more show of generosity is expected during the dinner.
Those who are interested in attending the memorable reunion bash can contact Louis Ng to purchase the tickets, priced at RM 1000 per table.
