Staggering 353 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a staggering 353 new Covid-19 cases today bringing the state’s tally to 8,650 cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu continued to dominate with 181 cases, 67 in Meradong , 31 in Kuching, 22 in Bintulu, 18 in Kapit while Miri and Subis recordd eight each, Betong with six, three cases each in Bau and Dalat, two in Samarahan with Kanowit, Saratok, Julau and Serian each recorded one case.

Case breakdown

Of the 181 cases in Sibu district, 86 were close contacts screened from active case detection (ACD), 70 were from other screenings, 12 from screening of health officers, 11 were screening of symptomatic individuals while Pasai Cluster and Geronggang Cluster had one case respectively.

In Meradong district, 65 cases involved the Sungai Bakong Cluster and two were close contacts screened from ACD. As for Kuching district, 26 cases involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, three were from screenings of symptomatic individuals, one case was close contact screened from ACD and one case involved the Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster.

SDMC also said 19 cases in Bintulu district were close contacts screened from ACD, two cases were from screenings of symptomatic individuals and one case was from other Covid-19 screening.

In Kapit district, 14 cases involved the Gelong Cluster, three were close contacts screened from ACD and one was from other Covid-19 screening.

“In Miri district, four cases were close contacts screened from ACD, two cases from other Covid-19 screening and one case was screening of symptomatic individual. It also had one Import B case from Melaka.

“The eight cases in Subis district were close contacts screened from ACD while five cases in Betong district involved the Jalan Muhibbah cluster and one case was screening of symptomatic individual,” it said.

SDMC also said that of the three cases in Bau district, one involved the Emperoh Jambu cluster, one case was close contact screened from ACD and the other involved screening of symptomatic individual.

“Dalat district had two cases of close contacts screened from ACD and one case was from screening of symptomatic individual. Samarahan district had two Import C cases from Kuching district which involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster.

“The one case in Julau district was from other Covid-19 screenings at a health centre there while the case in Kanowit district was from close contacts screened from ACD,” it said.

It added that the case in Serian district was a close contact screened from ACD while Saratok district had one case involving screening of symptomatic individuals at a health centre.

Clusters in the state

There are 25 active clusters in the state at present namely, Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong, Emperoh Jambu Cluster, Jalan Green Cluster, Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster and Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching, Sungai Bakong Cluster and Bintang Daily Cluster in Meradong, Kejatau Cluster and Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman, Jan Yong Cluster and Gelong Cluster in Kapit, Geronggang Cluster, Mas Merah Cluster, Pasai Cluster and Tangap (Subis) Sub-Cluster, in Sibu, Univista Cluster in Samarahan, Kidurong Dua Cluster in Bintulu, Nanga Lijan Cluster in Julau, Seruas Cluster in Beluru, Jalan Pengiran Cluster in Matu, Tabong Cluster in Bau, Bedayan Cluster in Serian, Rakut Cluster and Jelita Cluster in Miri as well as Bukit Sekubong in Sebauh.
