SAMARAHAN: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is pleased that the Public Works Department (JKR) will resume work on the traffic lights at the five roundabouts here soon.

MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos disclosed that the Ministry of Transport had arranged for JKR to give a briefing on the project.

“We are pleased to hear from JKR that a new contractor will soon be engaged. Work will resume in June or July this year, and the project will be completed in 15 months’ time, which is by October 2023.

“Everyone has been anxiously wanting to know when the project will resume and when it will be completed. MPKS can now inform concerned Samarahan residents as well as commuters who go through Kota Samarahan of this latest development,” he said on Thursday (April 21).

Minos pointed out that the project was vital because many other big projects depended on it to a considerable extent, including the new hospital, cancer centre, infectious disease research centre and private sector developments.

“The project, once completed, would mean greatly to Samarahan folk who have suffered for years now from the daily traffic jams at the roundabouts.

“It is now for Samarahan folk and other road users to exercise patience as well as be thankful that the stalled project is to be resumed soon.”
