KUCHING : Connections Toastmasters Club (CTMC) will be meeting tomorrow at Homestay Hotel, Jalan Ellis here at 7.30pm. The theme of the meeting is: “Start Now”. “Stop waiting for the perfect moment, the way to get ahead is to start now,” said Vincent Chai, the President of the club. “So, let us start now and make things happen.”
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation which provides a platform for the members to be trained in public speaking, effective communication and leadership skills. The meeting is open to the public and guests are welcome.
The club aims to develop competent speakers with the help of speech manuals and constructive feedback and evaluation from club members in an uplifting, positive environment. “In the club, participants can learn and progress in a supportive learn-by-doing environment that allows you to achieve your goals at your own pace,” added Chai.
A typical Toastmasters meeting will have members doing prepared speeches. Evaluation and feedback will be provided to encourage speakers to improve further. There will be an impromptu speaking session, known as Table Topics, which allows audiences to come on stage and speak for 1-2 mins based on the topics given.
The Toastmaster of the Evening (TOE) for tomorrow’s meeting is Thomas Teng. He is the Immediate Past President of Connection Toastmasters Club and currently serves as Division D Director in District 87. He i s a S i l v e r Adv anc e d C ommu n i c a t o r A c h i e v e r and is very passionate about Connections Toastmasters Club.
With his enthusiasm, he ensures a happy and relaxed night for the audience. The club’s entry fee is RM10 per person inclusive of light refreshment. The meeting takes place every second and fourth Thur sday s of the month at Homestay Hotel at 7.30pm.
