KUCHING: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah assure that the state government will ensure victims of the recent fire at Kampung Sg Bedil Besar get help.

“JKM (Social Welfare Department) Sarawak has provided immediate assistance, including household essential items, materials for house reconstruction, school aid for children and financial aid to assist the victims as fast as we can,” Fatimah, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Women Wing chief, told reporters after handing over financial aid to the victims here yesterday.

She advised the victims to utilise and manage the financial aid wisely and efficiently.

“While we hope to help ease the burden suffered by the victims, we hope that they would be able to organise financial aid.”

Fatimah also said the state government would be looking deeper into this matter.

“It is important to acknowledge that the house is not covered by insurance and claims cannot be made to rebuild a new house.

“That is why we encourage them to look into the wiring and also to rebuild the wiring,” she asserted.

Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali were also present to discuss how they could assist in rebuilding the affected houses.
