KUCHING: A total of 100 kidney patients from the Bandar Kuching and Stampin parliamentary constituencies are now eligible for a RM1,500 dialysis assistance fund.

According to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, the programme aims to alleviate the financial burden of kidney patients who are currently receiving dialysis therapy.

“The candidate has to be a dialysis patient who receives dialysis treatment either from non-governmental organisation (NGO) or private facilities.

“Applicant must also be a resident in Bandar Kuching or Stampin parliamentary constituency, with a household income of less than RM5,000.

“Those who are eligible for this programme can apply for the fund at our DAP headquarters or any of our service centres,” he said at a press conference at DAP Headquarters here today.

For the application process, he said patients would need to present their identity card, medical record, verification letter from the dialysis centre or any documentation that the applicant is having treatment at the centre, a document to confirm the applicant’s income and a bank statement.

“For the time being, we are only looking for 100 applicants. So it is a first come, first serve basis.

“We may expand it to more than 100 patients, but this is dependent on the fund’s availability, as we are also operating other programmes,” he explained.

Also present were Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui as well as Chong’s special assistant Michael Kong Feng Nian.
