State declares six new clusters

KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) declared six new clusters in the state on Friday (Aug 13), with four located in Kuching and one each in Beluru and Sebauh.

The new clusters are Skim Penempatan Stutong Baru Cluster, Taman Indah Landeh Cluster, Kampung Sungai Laruh Cluster and Jalan Sungai Maong Cluster, all in Kuching district; Sungai Menok Cluster in Beluru; and Long Maktub Cluster in Sebauh.

SDMC said the Skim Penempatan Stutong Baru Cluster is a community cluster involving several families settled at Skim Penempatan Stutong Baru, Jalan Stampin Baru, Kuching.

“Seventeen people have been screened, whereby six including the index case tested positive, one tested negative, and 10 are still awaiting results,” it said in a statement on Friday (13 Aug).

The Taman Indah Landeh Cluster is also a community cluster, involving residents of a residential area in Taman Indah Landeh, Jalan Sri Permai Off Jalan Landeh, Kuching.

Fifteen individuals have been screened, of which eight including the index case tested positive and seven were found negative.

Meanwhile, the Kampung Sungai Laruh Cluster is a community cluster involving a few families at Kampung Sungai Laruh, Jalan Seruling, Petra Jaya, Kuching.

“A total of 80 people have been screened, whereby 12 including the index case tested positive and 68 tested negative,” it said.

SDMC said the Jalan Sungai Maong Cluster is an institution cluster involving employees and students of a kindergarten at Jalan Sungai Maong, Kuching.

A total of 99 people have been screened, of which 20 including the index case tested positive, 75 tested negative, and four are still awaiting results.

The positive cases from all four new clusters declared in Kuching are being isolated and treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Kuching District.

As for the Sungai Menok Cluster, SDMC said it is a community cluster involving a longhouse under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Sungai Menok, Lapok, Tinjar in Beluru.

A total of 72 people have been screened, of which 20 including the index case tested positive, 40 were found negative, and 12 are still awaiting results. The positive cases are being treated at Miri Hospital and the PKRC in Miri District.

Meanwhile, the Long Maktub Cluster is also a community cluster involving a longhouse under EMCO at Long Maktub, Tubau in Sebauh.

Thirty-four people have been screened, whereby eight including the index case tested positive, 26 are still awaiting results, and five new cases were reported today. The positive cases are being treated at Bintulu Hospital and the PKRC in Bintulu District.

SDMC also announced the end of three clusters, namely Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau, Jalan Haji Taha Cluster in Kuching and Sungai Pelepak Cluster in Meradong.

With that, there are 99 active clusters remaining in Sarawak as of Friday.
