SARIKEI: The state government is committed to expanding the agricultural sector through programmes organised by the Sarawak Agriculture Department.

Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii pointed this out at the “Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) organised by the Sarawak Agriculture Department, Sarikei branch at Sarikei Hall here today.

He said the government was working hard to encourage the people to engage in various agriculturual activities such as kelulut breeding, crop breeding, aquaculture and durian cultivation.

“Kelulut farming can bring profits to kelulit farmers if it is done properly. It is very easy, less risky and low cost.

“In addition, crop breeding is also a way to plant and maintain crop trees more efficiently,” he said.

Huang added the government also wanted to boost the economic potential of an area through livestock breeding.

He said it was a strategy to increase the production of the food sector in order to enjoy fresh raw materials at reasonable prices.
