KUCHING: The Sarawak government is committed to ensuring every household throughout the state, whether in urban or rural areas, will have full access to electricity.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi called on the people, especially in rural areas, to therefore remain patient as the government continues implementing projects under the Additional or Late Applicant Fund (ALAF).

To illustrate the government’s commitment he said 31 villages in the Pantai Damai constituency, for instance, will be getting round-the-clock electricity supply.

A total of 406 households already have access to the facility with the completion of ten of the 31 projects under the ALAF.

“This includes projects carried out in Kampung Sg. Berdaun, Kampung Sg. Batu, Kampung Sg. Lumut, Kampung Buntal, Kampung Telaga Air and Kampung Selang Laut.

“Besides that, the project at Kampung Temedak Melayu, Kampung Bintawa Tengah, Kampung Bintawa Hilir and Kampung Bintawa Ulu was also successfully completed,” he said.

He said this at a Rural Electricity Supply ALAF Scheme launching ceremony at the M&M Kopitiam Kampung Buntal on Thursday (March 3).

According to him projects at five villages involving 155 households were currently in the process of implementation, namely Kampung Pulo Hilir, Kampung Selang Ulu, Kampung Jaya Bakti, Kampung Bukit Nyabut Trombol and Kampung Temedak Melayu.

He pointed out that ten other villages comprising 122 households were currently under the survey and site design stage.
