KUCHING: Sarawak will continue its subsidies of 5 to 25 per cent on electricity bills for domestic users as well as commercial and industrial sectors until June this year, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said.

“This is to further assist the rakyat and the business communities in riding through the post-Covid-19 pandemic economic challenges and mitigating the rising cost of living, as well as cost of doing business.

“The discount would also help small and medium (SMEs) entrepreneurs,” he told a press conference after chairing the state cabinet meeting at Dewan Sri Sarawak, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex, today (Feb 2).

Abang Johari said the electricity bill discount involving a sum of RM200 million would last until June 2023.

For the record, the Sarawak government had announced the BKSS 9.0 package in August last year, which is worth more than RM1 billion and includes discounts on electricity bills.

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian; State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki and cabinet ministers.
