State has 124 new positive cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 124 new Covid-19 positive cases on Monday (Mar 22), bringing the total number to 14,374.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cases were reported in 14 districts throughout the state.

“Thirty-eight cases were reported in Sibu, Miri (20), Samarahan (16), Bintulu (14), Kuching (13), Tanjung Manis (seven), Kapit (five), three each in Julau and Selangau, and one each in Saratok, Sarikei, Sebauh, Serian and Telang Usan,” it said in a statement on Monday.

Of the 124 new cases reported, a total of 23 showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screening.

“A total of 95 cases have undergone quarantine order at designated quarantine centres.

“They consist of 84 individuals who were identified as close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases, three individuals returning from abroad (Import A) and eight individuals returning from high-risk areas (Import B),” SDMC said, adding that 68 of the 124 cases were detected through screening of individuals who had contact with positive cases.

“The other 56 cases involved 23 people detected at health facilities, individual screenings in an existing active cluster (16), individuals returning from other states in Malaysia (eight), screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities (six) and individuals returning from abroad, namely Taiwan, Mexico and Central Africa (three),” it added.

SDMC added that 217 cases had recovered and allowed to be discharged from hospitals throughout the state.

“Forty-four patients were discharged from Sarikei Hospital and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC), Sibu Hospital (43), Miri Hospital (36), Bintulu Hospital (32), Sarawak General Hospital (20), PKRC Betong (18), PKRC Kapit Hospital (14), PKRC Serian (seven), Sri Aman Hospital (two) and PKRC Mukah (one).

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 11,605 or 80.74 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” said SDMC.
