KUCHING: State leaders have extended their heartiest congratulatory messages and support for Datuk Idris Buang’s appointment as Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Deputy Speaker.

They are confident that he is certainly the right person to fill the role in view of his legal background and vast experience.

Idris, 68, was sworn in as DUN Deputy Speaker at Astana Negeri Sarawak on Friday, witnessed by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib.

He succeeded former DUN Deputy Speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala, who is now Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring).

Idris is a lawyer by profession and also Information chief for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) as well as Muara Tuang assemblyman.

Datuk Idris has vast experience. He had served as a political secretary to the chief minister, Senator, and currently as state assemblyman for Muara Tuang.

With his legal background, Idris would have no problems understanding and applying the rules and procedures as contained in the Standing Orders of the Sarawak DUN. He is equipped for the post.
