State Library holding Makerfest programme

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Library is holding “Sarawak Train-The-Trainer” Makerfest programme from today until  October 6 at its Seminar Room on level 1.

This programme is a collaboration between the Sarawak State Library and the U.S. Embassy, Kuala Lumpur.

The purpose of this programme is to train American Corner librarians to use Maker hardware and software efficiently and in turn,  train and mentor colleagues, youths and other visitors to the American Corner, to create everyday

products and to better understand how to market them as an entrepreneur.

Through hands-on exposure to art, technology, ideation and fabrication processes, participants will develop the necessary skillsets to engage the community in science, technology, arts and math (STEAM) activities.

The three-day programme will cover topics such as   introduction to 3D Printing, 3D CAD Basics, Arduino, basic of electronics, learning to code and product architecturing.  Working in teams, the participants will have the opportunity to present their “maker” projects and receive appraisals for their creative inventions.

MakerFest is the first of a series of sessions planned for building an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. 

Participants learn self-confidence through this exercise and are empowered to teach the same lessons learned to others.

The workshop is conducted by the Asia School of Business (ASB), an executive education centre established in 2015 by Bank Negara Malaysia in partnership with the world renowned MIT Sloan School of Management.

Subsequent to the MakerFest, the Sarawak State Library will host the  American Corners Malaysia workshop, October 7-8, 2017, at Pullman Hotel Kuching for librarians and staff managing these facilities for the public.

The workshop will feature such topics as “The Future of American Spaces : Opportunities and Challenges”, “Education USA : A Key Resource for American Spaces”, “Innovation, Robotics and Community Partnerships”, “Ted Talks at American Corners”, “American Corners Best Practices – Highlights from Sarawak”, ‘American Corner in a Box’ and many more interesting topics.

The Sarawak State Library’s American Corner, in conjunction with U.S. Embassy, Kuala Lumpur will showcase “Movie Under The Stars: The Boss Baby”. This is a free outdoor movie screening for the public on October 7, 2017 at 8.00pm in the beautiful compound outside the library.

Hurry to the library to get your limited but free movie tickets!  Get them from the Library’s Multimedia Gallery (MMG) counter on the ground floor. It’s on a first come, first served basis.
