KUCHING: The State Health Department director Datuk Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed is confident that Sarawakians will complete their two doses of Covid-19 vaccines by the second week of August.
He revealed that the department was thinking of increasing the administration of the vaccines from 60,000 to 65,000 doses a day.
He also said the Sarawak had so far administered 1.5 million vaccine doses.
“There are various vaccination centres (PPVs) that have been established in the state involving the Ministry of Health (MOH) and private health sector. Therefore, administrations of vaccines are being conducted at health clinics, private clinics and even industrial PPV.
“Based on the current threshold value, Sarawak has managed to vaccinate 10 percent of the adult group and we will continue with the efforts.
“We would like to thank the federal government for the stable supply of vaccines and for providing sufficient supply of vaccines for the whole of Sarawak,” he said when met by reporters during a visit to the Tanah Puteh Health Clinic PPV.
Dr Mohamed Sapian also expressed his appreciation to the state government, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), people’s representatives, volunteers as well as retired doctors, nurses and medical officers who had assisted at the PPVs.
He added that they had helped to reduce the burden of MOH staff who had to handle the Covid-19 cases and vaccinate the people at the same time.
“With assistance from the volunteers, the MOH staff can focus on Covid-19 control and prevention activities in Sarawak.
“We are aware that the state records approximately 300 to 500 Covid-19 cases daily but the figures will decrease. Having said that, all Sarawakians must work together to reduce the cases in the state.
“We hope that everyone will continue to abide by the standard operating procedures because we do not want the virus to spread,” he said.
Also present during the visit was Local Housing and Government Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the SDMC advisor.
