KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department is mulling the setting up of a temporary respiratory clinic in the city, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to him, the proposed clinic would cater for patients with respiratory issues.

“Anyone with respiratory complaints can visit the clinic.

“We would like to thank the public for continuing to abide by the various measures introduced under the movement control order,” he said after attending a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas yesterday.

In another development, Uggah who is also the State Disaster Management Committee chairman reminded members of the public that the Covid-19 screening centre at the Sarawak General Hospital has been relocated to the state Youth and Sports Centre.

“The new venue has a more conducive and safer environment. Those who had close or casual contact with participants from any of the five identified Covid-19 clusters are advised to visit the centre for screening,” he added.

He said the centre has two sections.

“One section will be for those who have been in close or casual contact but have no symptoms of the sickness. The other section is for those with the symptoms.

“It is crucial that they come personally,” he stressed.

Uggah pointed out that it was not possible to send medical officers to the homes of those who were down with fever or for them to make appointments to visit the centre.

He said for those with Covid-19 symptoms, they should immediately go to the four designated Covid-19 hospitals namely; Sarawak General Hospital, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu hospitals.

As such, all private hospitals should advise patients with Covid-19 symptoms to rush to the government hospitals for treatment.

On another matter, Uggah said as of Saturday, there are 125 people at the six quarantine centres in the state.

Kuching has the highest number at 37 at its two centres followed by Sibu with 29 and Miri with 23. Limbang has 13 and Lawas has 19.
