KUCHING: The State operation room has been installed with a video conferencing system (VCS) which is connect to all district offices in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said with the installation of the video conferencing system they can now hold video conferencing with all district offices in the state.
“We have tried it out and it looked very interesting as whatever communication we have with the district offices on floods will be communicated live to this room.
“This way we can mobilise our teams immediately to handle the flood situation,” he said during a press conference after chairing the third coordination meeting of the State Disaster Management Committee at the State operation room, Wisma Bapa Malaysia here, yesterday.
Uggah said the latest manpower strength available in facing the northeastern monsoon which is expected from end of December to March next year are 22,436 personnel from various agencies.
“The agencies are ATM, PDRM, Bomba, State Health Department, APM, Rela, State Welfare Department and Resident & District Office (R&DO).
“We will also have five helicopters, five drones, 121 lorries, 484 4WD vehicles, 328 boats and 101 ambulances,” he said.
He also mentioned that there are 621 evacuation centres statewide that are able to accommodate almost 200,000 victims.
“I am very happy with the preparations made by the various agencies to be on standby from December to March next year for the coming monsoon season.
“We am quite experience in handling the situation and during our discussions we will give our best services to the flood victims to avoid damages to properties as well as loss of lives.
“I hope the video conferencing will help in communicating information on possible floods and we pray that there will be no floods,” he said.
