State records 141 new cases, no death

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 141 new Covid-19 positive cases on Wednesday (Mar 24) bringing the total number of cases in the state thus far to 14,655.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said of the number, 34 cases were recorded in Miri, Bintulu (27), Serian (25), Sibu (17), Samarahan (nine), Kuching (eight), Tebedu (six), Tanjung Manis (five), Sarikei (three) and one case respectively in Kanowit, Kapit, Meradong, Mukah, Selangau, Sri Aman and Subis.

“Ninety-three of the new cases were individuals screened due to close contact with Covid-19 positive cases in which 12 individuals were symptomatic.

“A total of 28 cases were individuals screened involving active clusters with two symptomatic individuals and nine cases were symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities.

“Another eight cases were from other screenings conducted at health facilities with one symptomatic individual.

“There were two Import B cases of individuals returning from other states in Malaysia and one Import A case from the United States (US),” SDMC said.

Meanwhile, the committee also revealed that 118 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals today.

“A total of 27 patients were discharged from Bintulu Hospital, Sibu Hospital (22), Miri Hospital (20), Sarawak General Hospiral (19), low risk quarantine centre (PKRC) under Kapit Hospital (11), PKRC Betong (eight), Sarikei Hospital (seven), PKRC Serian (two), PKRC Mukah (one) and Hospital Limbang (one).

“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases that have recovered and discharged to 11,915 people or 81.30 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state,” SDMC added.

On the number of patients-under-investigations (PUIs), the committee reported 141 new PUIs with none awaiting lab results.
