State records 156 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 156 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of cases recorded in the state thus far to 2,367.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said of these cases, 65 were recorded in Sibu, Miri (28), Kanowit (24), Beluru (15), Sarikei (10), Sebauh (3), Kuching (2), Bintulu (2), Subis (2), Dalat (1), Belaga (1), Meradong (1), Samarahan (1) and Daro (1).

“For the 65 cases in Sibu district, 33 of them involved the Pasai Cluster, 26 were other screenings by individuals at health centres in Sibu district and six were health workers which have been categorised as local infections,” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.

He said the 28 cases in Miri district comprised 10 individuals who were screened as they had contact with a positive Covid-19 case (categorised as local infections), six involved the new Rakut Cluster, five involved the Jelita Cluster, five involved the Pasai Cluster, one involved the Bah Sayap Cluster while one was an individual who had come from a Covid-19 risk area involving a Kuala Lumpur local, categorised as Import B.

He said the 24 cases in Kanowit district included 23 cases involving the Pasai Cluster and a local who had returned from a Covid-19 risk area, categorised as Import B.

“The 15 cases in Beluru district and the 10 cases in Sarikei district involved the Pasai Cluster,” said Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister. 

As for the three cases in Sebauh district, he said two involved the Bukit Sekubong Cluster while one was an individual detected through community screening by the Bintulu Division Health Clinic, categorised as a local infection.

“The two cases in Kuching district include one involving the Keranji Tabuan Cluster and one individual screened as they had Covid-19 symptoms,” he said.

He said the two cases in Bintulu district consisted of a local who had returned from a Covid-19 risk area (categorised as Import B) and a symptomatic individual, categorised as a local infection.

He said the two cases in Subis district and the one case each in Dalat district and Belaga district all involved the Pasai Cluster.

The single case each reported in the districts of Meradong and Samarahan were individuals screened as they exhibited symptoms, categorised as local infections.

“The single case recorded in Daro district involved the Pasai Cluster. This case has been categorised as an Import C case from Sibu,” said Uggah.

He said 19 cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals today – seven from Miri Hospital, six from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and six from Sibu Hospital.

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 1,199 or 50.65 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” he said.

As of today, there were 1,147 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state – 699 in Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital (278), SGH (114), Bintulu Hospital (55), and Limbang Hospital (1).

He said 159 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported and 14 PUIs were still awaiting laboratory results.
