State records 18 new PUI cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 18 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases of Covid-19 yesterday, bringing the tally to 195.

The State Disaster Management Committee said of the new cases, 16 were reported at the Sarawak General Hospital, one each in Sibu and Bintulu Hospital.

Of the 195 PUI cases to date, 167 had tested negative for the disease while the remaining 28 cases are still pending results from laboratory testing. These comprise 22 cases at the Sarawak General Hospital, three in Miri Hospital, two in Bintulu Hospital and one in Sibu Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has until 11am yesterday screened 14,797 arrivals into the state at all airports, sea and land entry points bringing to a total of 368,122 people screened since Feb 1.

The department is again advising those who plan to travel to affected countries like China (including Hong Kong, Macau), Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran to postpone such trips.

Those who have travelled to any of these affected countries within the last 14 days and have developed any symptoms of fever, coughing and breathing difficulty must seek immediate medical attention.

They must inform the doctor attending to them of their travel history.

Any doctors coming across suspected Covid-19 case must notify the state Health Department by dialling 082 443247 or its Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre at its email: cprc-sarawak@moh.gov.my

For others, they can contact the State Disaster Management Committee at its hotline 083 443991. 

The department also advised the public to take strict care of their personal hygiene.
