State records 238 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 238 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the state’s tally to 16,628.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Bintulu District accounted for 95 of the cases, Sibu (51), Miri (28), Kuching (22), Beluru (17), Julau (eight), Serian (six), Meradong (four), Tatau (three), Sebauh (two) while Kanowit and Sri Aman recorded one case each.

Of the 238 new cases reported, 24 persons showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.

SDMC said 177 of the cases detected were individuals who had been directed to undergo quarantine at quarantine centres.

These cases comprise 176 persons who were identified as close contacts of positive Covid-19 cases while one was a person who had come from overseas.

On the breakdown of the new cases, SDMC said 160 cases were individuals who had contact with positive cases, 37 were other screenings at health facilities, 21 were individuals linked to existing active clusters, 16 were from screenings on symptomatic individuals at health facilities, and one was a person who had returned from Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, there are still 36 active clusters in the state.

“Of these, six clusters reported an increase in cases,” it said.
