State records 512 new cases, one fatality

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 512 new cases and one fatality today, pushing the state total number of cases to 23,432.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embah said 149 of these cases were reported in Bintulu district, Selangau (105), Sibu (95), Kuching (37), Miri (22), Mukah (17), Samarahan (15), Song (12), Kapit (12), Serian (nine), Matu (nine), Asajaya (six), Betong (five), Tatau (five), Bukit Mabong (three), Meradong (twp), Kanowit (two), Saratok (two), Subis (one), Beluru (one), Kabong (one), Belaga (one), and Marudi (one).

He mentioned that one fatality was a 67-year-old local woman who was treated at Miri Hospital due to fatigue and poor appetite over the past week.

“Her rT-PCR came back positive on Apr 13. She was announced dead on Apr 13. She had comorbid heart disease,” he said during a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building here today.

A total of 410 new cases have recovered and were discharged on Saturday. Of these, 132 were from Sarawak General Hospital, Bintulu Hospital (63), Sarikei Hospital (59), PKRC Sibu (55), PKRC Miri (39), PKRC Mukah (32), PKRC Kapit (18), Sri Aman Hospital (4), Limbang Hospital (3), PKRC Sri Aman Prison (3), PKRC Serian (1) and PKRC Betong (1).

“These bring the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 18,077 or 77.15 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak,” he said.

There are still 5,151 cases being isolated and treated at PKRCs and hospital wards.

“A total of 512 persons-under-investigation (PUIs) have been reported with none awaiting laboratory test results,” he added.
