State records 533 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 533 new Covid-19 positive cases and one death today (May 14).

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the latest figures bring the total number of cases in the state to 37,654, with the death toll at 215.

The committee said the 215th death, Case 32,307, involved a 60-year-old local woman who was receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for complications from cancer.

SDMC said her swab for the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was found positive for Covid-19 on May 3, and her health deteriorated and she died on May 13.

The committee said the case had other comorbidities such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

On the new Covid-19 cases reported today, SDMC said 324 or 60.78 percent of them were detected in Miri, Kapit, Sibi, Bintulu and Kuching.

The committee said that Miri recorded the highest cases with 109, Kapit (69), Sibu (58), Bintulu (46), Kuching (42), Belaga (40), Sarikei (28), Selangau (26), Meradong (21), Pakan (18), Kanowit (15), Serian (13), Sebauh (11), Song (seven), Sri Aman (seven), Tatau (six), Mukah (five), Lubok Antu (four), Bau and Pusa (two each), Bukit Mabong, Subis, Julau and Samarahan (one each).

Of the 533 new cases reported, 38 showed signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screenings.

As of today, the number of recoveries and discharged across the state were 497 cases, while 6,474 people are still receiving treatment.

This brings the total number of positive cases that have recovered or allowed to be discharged to date to 30,885 people or 82.02 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state.

Meanwhile, there are 534 new person-under-investigations (PUIs) reported and none are awaiting laboratory test results.
