State records 589 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 589 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (Apr 19), pushing the state’s total number of cases to 24,529.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, revealed that 133 of these cases were reported in Sibu district, Bintulu (99), Mukah (82), Kapit (72), Kuching (44), Sarikei (31), Miri (30), Meradong (16), Tatau (16), Sri Aman (13), Selangau (11), Matu (eight), Kanowit (six), Tanjung Manis (five), Bukit Mabong (four), Serian (four), Pakan (four), Samarahan (three), Subis (two), Dalat (two), Kabong (one), Song (one), Saratok (one) and Julau (one).

“321 cases were individuals screened from having close contacts to Covid-19 cases while 152 cases were individuals screened in active clusters.

“There were 60 cases of symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities while the other 56 cases were individuals from other screenings at health facilities,” SDMC said.

The committee added 346 new cases had recovered and were discharged today (Apr 19).

“Of these, 87 were from the low-risk quarantine centre (PKRC) under Miri Hospital, PKRC under Bintulu Hospital (80), PKRC under Sibu Hospital (62), Sarawak General Hospital (46), Sarikei Hospital (26), PKRC Mukah (23), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (13), Limbang Hospital (three), PKRC Betong (three), PKRC Serian (two) and PKRC Lawas (one).

“These bring the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 18,719 or 76.31 percent from the total number of cases in Sarawak,” SDMC said.

The committee added 5,604 cases were being isolated and treated at PKRCs and hospital wards.

“589 persons under investigation (PUIs) have been reported and 13 PUIs are still awaiting laboratory test results,” SDMC said.
