State records 767 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak on Wednesday (Oct 20) recorded 767 Covid-19 cases, pushing the cumulative number of cases to 233,740.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) stated that 756 or 98.57 percent of the new cases were of Categories 1 and 2 while 11 or 1.43 percent were of Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Kuching topped the list of new cases with 217, followed by Miri (148); Sibu (95); Bintulu (49); Limbang (30); Lawas (29); Kanowit (27); Betong (17); Samarahan (14); Bau (13); 11 each in Serian, Daro and Simunjan; 10 each in Saratok and Song.

There were nine cases reported in Kapit, eight each in Sarikei and Pusa; seven in Sri Aman; five each in Beluru and Kabong, four in Marudi; three each in Mukah, Meradong, Lundu, Tanjung Manis, Asajaya and Bukit Mabong; two each in Julau, Subis and Sebauh; one each in Belaga, Dalat, Tebedu, Telang Usan and Lubok Antu.

The committee also announced the emergence of a new cluster dubbed the Jalan Matang cluster in Kuching.

“It is an education institution cluster involving students at the hostel of a vocational college at Jalan Matang in the Kuching district. Of the 100 individuals who were screened, 28 including the index case were positive while 72 were negative.

“All positive cases were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), low risk treatment and quarantine centre (PKRC) as well as Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in the Kuching district for treatment and isolation,” it said.

The committee added that the state currently had 45 active Covid-19 clusters with four clusters, namely, the Air Awat-Awat cluster, the Menuang cluster, the Putai cluster and the Ensurai cluster recording new cases.
