State records five deaths, bringing total fatalities to 133

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded five new Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday (Apr 14), bringing the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 133.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 129th death involved Case 17,784, a local man, aged 55-years who had been referred to Sarikei Hospital as he was experiencing cough and required respiratory assistance.

“A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test was done and returned positive on Apr 5. His health condition deteriorated and he passed away on Apr 12,” SDMC said, adding that the case was from the Disso Cluster.

The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, and chronic kidney disease.

The 130th death involved Case 15,966, a local woman aged 77-years who had been referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) from a quarantine centre as she was experiencing fever throughout the monitoring period.

She was tested positive on Mar 29. Her health condition worsened and she passed away on Apr 12. This case has comorbidities high blood pressure and diabetes. The case was linked to the Kampung Baru Hilir Cluster.

SDMC said the 131st death was Case 16,771, a local woman aged 77-years who was admitted into Sarikei Hospital after exhibiting fever, flu, and sore throat.

The case required respiratory assistance and was referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment. An RT-PCR test was done and it was positive on Mar 1. She passed away on Apr 13.

The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure and diabetes, and was linked to the Sungai Gemuan Cluster.

Meanwhile, the 132nd death was Case 17,585, a local man, aged 78-years who had received treatment at Bintulu Hospital as he had cough and was in the high-risk category.

His RT-PCR test was positive on Apr 4 and he passed away on Apr 13 at the hospital. The case also had comorbidities of high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.

The 133rd death involved Case 17,836, a local man, aged 59-years who had been treated at Bintulu Hospital as he had shortness of breath. He was tested positive on Apr 5 and he passed away on Apr 14 after his health condition deteriorated. He had comorbidities of high blood pressure and gout.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported 240 patients had recovered and been discharged, bringing the number of recovered and discharged cases to 16,879.

“The number of active cases still receiving treatment and being isolated at Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) and hospital wards is 4,373.”

The committee also reported 513 new persons-under-investigation (PUIs) cases with 14 still awaiting laboratory test results.
