State records seven new Covid-19 community clusters

KUCHING: Sarawak today (Aug 10) recorded seven new Covid-19 community clusters, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

It said in a statement that all the new clusters were community clusters involving villages and longhouses in various parts of the state.

One of the new clusters, dubbed the Sessang cluster in Kabong, saw 42 positive cases including the index case out of the 247 people screened.

“Another new cluster, the Dabai Baruh cluster in Saratok, saw 32 positive cases including the index case out of the 163 people screened. 92 others are still awaiting lab test results.

“The third community cluster is the Senibung cluster in Lundu, which saw seven positive cases including the index case out of the 26 people screened,” said the SDMC in its daily statement today.

It explained four out of the seven newly identified clusters were in Kuching, namely, the Kampung Jaya Bakti cluster, the Kampung Tanjong Bako cluster, the Lorong Cahaya Damai cluster and the Braang Payang cluster.

“Of the new clusters in Kuching, 15 positive cases including the index case were detected from the Kampung Jaya Bakti cluster, 27 from the Kampung Tanjong Bako Cluster, 54 from the Lorong Cahaya Damai cluster and 23 from the Braang Payang cluster,” it explained.

The SDMC also declared the end of the Kampung Serikin cluster in Bau and the Sungai Long Seripa cluster in Sebauh after no new cases were detected or reported there in the past 28 days.

The committee also said that 17 out of the 96 active clusters in the state had recorded 414 new cases.
