State records sharp decrease of 2, 020 cases over the previous day’s tally

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,712 new Covid-19 cases today (Sept 22), a sharp decrease of 2,020 from the previous day’s tally of 3,732 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the new cases, 1,710 or 99.88 percent were in Category 1 and 2 while two cases or 0.12 percent were in Category 3, 4, and 5.

“There were 713 cases or 41.65 percent in Category 1 (no symptoms) and 997 cases or 58.24 percent in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

“Category 4 (lung infections and requiring oxygen) and Category 5 (lung infections and requiring ventilator) had one case or 0.06 percent each,” it said in a statement.

Kuching district reported the most cases at 480 followed by Bintulu (321); Miri (167); Bau (152); Sibu (117); Serian (62); 37 each in Mukah and Subis; Saratok (36); Kapit (35); Sri Aman (27); Samarahan (24); Pusa (20); 19 each in Tatau, Simunjan and Tebedu; Limbang (18); Sarikei (16); Kabong (15); 13 each in Betong and Belaga; Lubok Antu (12) and Lawas (11).

There were seven cases reported in Matu; five each in Asajaya, Lundu and Marudi; four each in Selangau and Dalat; three each in Meradong and Kanowit; two each in Sebauh and Telang Usan; while Pakan and Beluru reported one case respectively.

On a similar issue, the committee reported one latest covid-related fatality.

The victim was an 81-year-old man from Sri Aman who passed away in Sri Aman Hospital on Monday (Sept 20).

He had comorbidities of high blood pressure and stroke.

The committee also said that as of Wednesday, there were 91 new persons under surveillance (PUS) recorded.

“With this, the total number of PUS undergoing quarantine at the respective quarantine centres in the state is 2,578. A total of 152,828 PUS have been discharged statewide,” it added.
