State records significant drop in positive cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 570 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (June 16), a significant drop from the 718 cases recorded the previous day. The new cases raised the state’s tally to 57,475 cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said a total of 318 or 55.78 percent of the total cases were detected in Kuching, Mukah, Sibu and Bintulu districts.

Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 98, followed by Mukah (92), Sibu (82), Bintulu (46), Song and Sri Aman (31 each), Miri (25). Sarikei, Pakan and Serian each recorded 23 cases, Matu (21), Kapit (16), Bau (15), Tatau (10), Lundu (seven), Telang Usan (four) while Tanjung Manis, Kanowit, Marudi, Bukit Mabong and Selangau recorded three cases respectively. There were two cases recorded in Tebedu and Beluru respectively, while Julau, Meradong, Asajaya and Samarahan had one case each.

Of the 570 cases reported, 67 people had shown signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screening.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported 485 new recoveries and discharge from hospitals and Covid-19 low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) across the state.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 positive cases that have recovered and discharged to 47,211 people or 82.14 percent from the total cases in the state to date.

There are still 9,780 active cases receiving treatment and segregated in the PKRC and hospital wards as of today.
