State records three new cases

KUCHING: There were three new positive Covid-19 cases recorded in the state today, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases state-wide to 583 to date.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said, the new cases comprises two in Kuching and one case in Kota Samarahan.

The first case involved a foreign man who works as a project engineer at a local company in Kuching.

“He had a sore throat on July 12 and underwent rapid test kit (rT-PCR) swab test for Covid-19 at a private hospital on July 14 and laboratory test results found nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs were positive for Covid-19 on the same day,” SDMC said.

The second case was a health officer who works at a private hospital here.

“The individual displayed no signs or symptoms and underwent rT-PCR swab test for Covid-19 at the private hospital on July 14.

“Laboratory test results found that the nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs were positive for Covid-19 on the same day,” it said.

Meanwhile, the third case involved a local man who lives in Kota Samarahan and works as an engineer at the local company as with the first case.

“He also did not show any signs and symptoms during the screening at a private hospital. The rT-PCR swab test for Covid-19 conducted on July 14 found that the nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs were positive for Covid-19 on the same day,” it added.

The committee revealed that all three cases were local cases as there was no travel history to or from abroad by all three patients.

“All three cases are still under investigation. Tracking of close contacts involving family members and the workplace of the cases are still ongoing,” SDMC assured.

Meanwhile, there was no new case of discharged Covid-19 patients, with the total number of discharged patients remaining at 554 or 95.03 percent.

“There are 22 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases and 18 are currently awaiting laboratory test results,” added SDMC.
