KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared two new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in announcing this yesterday, said the Gerigat Cluster in Kabong and the Sungai Parik Cluster in Sri Aman are both community clusters.

The Gerigat cluster was detected at a village in Gerigat, Kabong that had spread through social movements and visiting activities during the last Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

“A total of 358 individuals were initially screened where 20 cases were detected positive for Covid-19 including the index case; 12 were found to be negative and 326 others are still awaiting laboratory results.

“All positive cases were referred to Saratok Hospital and admitted to low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs) in Betong Division for isolation and further treatment,” SDMC said.

As for the Parik Cluster, the committee said it involved four localities in the Sungai Parik area in Lingga and Tanjung Bijat, Sri Aman.

“A total of 130 individuals were initially screened where 24 cases were detected positive for Covid-19 including the index case; seven were found to be negative and 99 others are still awaiting laboratory results.

All positive cases were referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and admitted to PKRCs in Sri Aman Division for isolation and further treatment.

SDMC said the State Health Department has also declared an end to one cluster, namely the Bumi Consortium Cluster, here after no new cases were detected or reported over the last 28 days involving the cluster.

“There are currently 80 active clusters in the state where three clusters recorded five new cases,” it said.

Meanwhile, SDMC also informed that Lawas district, previously a Covid-19 yellow zone, has been declared as an orange zone after recording 21 cases of local infection in the past 14 days.

The district of Saratok, on the other hand, has reverted to orange status from red status after recording 40 cases of local infection in the past 14 days.

This brings the number of districts with orange status to five, 27 districts with red status, seven districts with yellow status and one district with green status.
