KUCHING: Sarawak recorded another eight positive Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 371 to date.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that all eight cases were undergoing treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here. He added that of the total 371 cases, 54 had already been discharged.
He said that 150 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total to 2,949 cases.
“Of this total, 2,419 cases are negative and 159 PUI cases are still pending laboratory results,” he said at the Covid-19 daily update press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.
The new 150 PUI cases were reported in Kuching (122), Miri (12), Samarahan (nine), Serian (four), Bau, Simunjan and Bintulu – one each.
“Up until today (yesterday), four main clusters have been identified: Good News Conference cluster (117 positive cases), Tabligh cluster (92 positive cases), RK Family/Italy cluster (50 positive cases), and Healthcare Worker cluster (13 positive cases). This is a total of 272 cases,” he said.
Uggah said there were 13 small clusters involving family members, work colleagues, neighbours, flights, and healthcare personnel, where the total number of positive cases is 53.
“Investigation is still ongoing to determine the source of infection in these cases,” he said.
He added that there were 46 cases still under investigation for the Health Department to determine whether these were clusters or isolated.
According to him, the public’s compliance to the MCO was 97 percent.
He said another 22 Sarawakians returned yesterday from overseas, West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan, bringing the total to 1,096 who are placed at surveillance centres as person-under-surveillance (PUS) in Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang.
He said that since Kuching and Samarahan were classified as red zones and to increase the capacity of Covid-19 screening centres at SGH and Kompleks Belia dan Sukan, the State Health Department (JKNS) had added more screening centres in Kota Samarahan (for the public, with drive-through) and Petra Jaya Health Clinic (for frontliners, with drive-through).
“For the Kota Samarahan screening centre, which was opened on March 22, a total of 1,604 people have been screened. Of the number, 1,346 samples have been taken and 35 cases were positive.
“Meanwhile the drive-through screening centre which was opened on April 13 had taken 137 samples,” said Uggah.
