KUCHING: The State Health Department yesterday declared three new Covid-19 clusters — one each in Kuching, Lundu and Bau districts.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the first cluster, dubbed the Jalan Sultan Tengah cluster here, was a workplace cluster involving employees of a resort at Jalan Sultan Tengah.

“Of the 27 individuals who were screened, six including the index case and two non-citizens were positive while 21 cases were negative.

“All the positive cases were referred to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and admitted to low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs) in the district for isolation and further treatment,” it said.

SDMC said the Stunggang Melayu cluster in Lundu was a community cluster at Kampung Melayu Stunggang.

Of the 121 individuals who were screened, eight were positive while 113 others were negative.

“All positive cases were referred to the SGH and admitted to the PKRC in Lundu district for isolation and further treatment.”

The Jalan Jambusan cluster in Bau, SDMC added, was also a community cluster involving a family gathering in conjunction with the Mother’s Day celebration. It was held at a house at Jalan Jambusan.

“The gathering was attended by 26 family members from Bau and Kuching districts. Of the 50 individuals who were screened, 17 were positive, 26 were negative and seven are still awaiting laboratory results.

All positive cases were referred to the SGH and admitted to the PKRCs in Kuching and Bau districts for isolation and further treatment.

The committee also reported the end of the Pasar Ikan Sebiew cluster in Bintulu district.

“The number of active clusters in the state is 83 and 11 of them have reported 86 new cases,” said SDMC.
