KUCHING: RTM Sarawak director Zainal Abidin Asri Abdul Wahid (pic) refused to make any comments on the matter involving RTM being accused of not giving the state government fair coverage. “I reserve my comments because this is an issue between the ministers,” he told reporters after holding a press conference on Jelajah Ramadan RTM Sarawak at RTM Kuching, yesterday.

Zainal explained that everyone at RTM Sarawak is only doing his or her job as instructed. “I am aware that the matter has ignited several back-and-forth responses from ministers.

“On our part, we only give ‘input’ to the federal Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo for him to answer,” he said.

Zainal also hinted on an upcoming discussion to address the matter in an appropriate manner.

Last Wednesday, RTM in a press statement refuted a claim made by a Sarawakian minister that it has been shunning Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the state government’s events in its coverage.

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on Tuesday accused Gobind of “playing politics” by claiming that RTM was not fair in its coverage.

Insisting that it has been fair in its reporting, RTM stated that it had covered 181 activities that involved the chief minister, his Cabinet and the state government.
