KUCHING: The state government has given RM6.5 million to the State Health Department.

In revealing this, State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the allocation is used to purchase additional personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical staff at the front of the Covid-19 pandemic fight.

The PPE includes 50,000 units of disposable face shields, medical goggles, KN 95 respirators, and 50,040 units of protective overalls and protective shoes.

“The PPE has been received and distributed in all 36 health facilities throughout the state,” he said when delivering the committee’s daily Covid-19 update yesterday.

Uggah said the committee had received a total of 2.9 mil additional units of face masks from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

“The face masks will be distributed to the people of Sarawak together with the face masks provided by the state government,” he added.

With him at the press conference were Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
