KUCHING: State Disaster Management Committee and the State Health Department are still tracing those who had got into contact with Case 33, a 58-year-old man who was in Kuching on Feb 16.

The committee and the department want to meet these people because Case 33 has been confirmed positive of Covid-19.

On March 3, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that seven new Covid-19 confirmed cases in Selangor were close contacts of Case 26, including a man who had travelled to Kuching (Case 33).

“The case was detected during contact detection, and was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on March 2,” he said after the new cases were announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s office following a briefing on the virus.

Dr Noor Hisham also said Patient 33 was admitted at the Sungai Buloh Hospital and his condition is stable.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the committee and the health department were working closely in monitoring and tracing the people who were in direct contact with Case 33.

“In Sarawak, we don’t take things for granted, even though it has been more than 14 days (since Case 33 visited Kuching),” he told reporters after the handover ceremony of 26 customised Animal Control Vehicles to Local authorities here at Kuching South City Council yesterday.

Dr Sim also added that Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the chairman of the committee, would issue a statement on the number of countries infected with Covid-19.

“We want everyone not to panic and not listen to rumours without any verification. Besides that, the public who are concerned can contact Covid-19 Hotline for the state.

“At the moment, the state is still free of Covid-19,” he added.
