CORONAVIRUS WATCH

KUCHING: Sarawak is still free of the Novel Coronavirus sickness, state Disaster Management Committee confirmed yesterday.

As at noon of Tuesday, out of 37 Patients Under Investigation (PUI) cases, 34 had been proven negative while three (3) are under investigation.

From Feb 2 to 4, a total of 18 people comprising 10 males and eight (8) females had been denied into the state as Sarawak strengthened and enforced its management against the spread of the deadly sickness, it disclosed in a statement.

“Of the numbers, 17 were from China and one from Indonesia. They had arrived at the Kuching International Airport and Miri, Bintulu, and Mulu Airports from Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu.

“They were denied entry as they had been in (and out of) China within the last 14 days,” it added.

On Feb 4, one PUI case was recorded while another four on Feb 5. The test results for all five cases, including three earlier ones, which bring to a total of eight, however, are still pending.

The committee yesterday reminded all foreigners of all nationalities and in particular tourists who had been to China in the last 14 days that they would be refused entry to the state.

All Malaysians (non-resident of Sarawak) who have visited China within the last 14 days are also strongly advised not to visit Sarawak until they have fully completed their 14 days home quarantine and are certified free from the sickness.

“All Sarawakians and Sarawakian PR, Work/Visa holders who have been to China in the last 14 days can come in but they would be required undergo compulsory home quarantine for 14 days.

“They will be subjected to random monitoring by the relevant authorities,” the committee added.
