KUCHING: At least 20 countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are expected to participate in the Global Muslim Business Forum 2022 here.

According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the two day event beginning Oct 19 forum jointly organised by the state government and Kingsley Advisory & Strategic Initiatives Sdn Bhd will be held at the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK).

It is expected to attract more than 1,300 participants from across the regions, who will attend either physically, or virtually to explore and establish strategic alliances with Sarawak.

“The forum aims to promote dialogue and discourse on the global Islamic economy while encouraging multi-stakeholder collaboration between government, businesses and civil society.

“Heads of State, leaders and key business figures from the Muslim countries are invited to share their insight on the global Islamic economy in the post-pandemic era,” he said during a press conference here today.

Themed ‘The Rise of the Global Islamic Economy: Recovering in the Post-Pandemic Era’, he said it aims to create stronger collaboration and partnership among Muslims and the wider community to refocus their role in adopting sustainable development and green practices.

“The key highlight of the forum includes the launching of a Global Muslim Business Leaders Council, which aims to promote and strengthen the economy by working in partnership with governments to unlock investment and promote the halal economy.

“An awards ceremony for business excellence and lifetime achievement will also be held as a recognition of the business leaders’ contribution to the prosperity of the global society,” he said.

Awang Tengah disclosed that the forum will also highlight the business and investment opportunities in Sarawak, particularly in renewable energy, new economies such as hydrogen, oil and gas sector.

“Hence, it will open up opportunities for investors to explore potential business and investment in Sarawak.

“Additionally, domestic local small and medium enterprises are encouraged to participate in this forum, which will provide a platform to connect to potential halal markets across the globe,” he said.
