KUCHING: People in Kuching, Sibu and Miri have been urged to join their local councils in switching off their lights for one hour during the Earth hour on March 26.

This year Sibu Municipal Council is the host of the Earth Hour programme during they will turn off their lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

“On March 26, we will start our programme live on Facebook at 8pm with a speech by me,” said SMC chairman Clarence Ting.

This will be followed by a speech from Kuching South City Council Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and Miri Mayor Adam Yii.

“Then we will simultaneously switch off the lights from our respective cities as a symbolic gesture to show that we are doing something to protect our earth at 8.30pm,” said Ting during the 102nd ShallWeeTalk session organised by Wee on his Facebook on Saturday (Mar 12).

He also said that as this year’s Earth Hour is themed ‘Rethink Plastic’ this is a call to the people to reduce the usage of plastic as it is harmful to the environment.
