LINGGA: The Sarawak government is now waiting for the defendant’s statement from Petronas, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

She said this when asked by reporters about the latest status of the suit filed by the state government against Petronas recently.

“If the defendant’s statement is filed in court, only then will the case be heard in court.

“We need to wait. The process doesn’t happen fast. It’s not like today you file in, tomorrow it will be heard, not that way,” she said.

Hasidah added the process needed time because many exchanges of documents had to be done.

On Nov 21, Sarawak government filed a suit against Petronas for not paying the 5 per cent sales tax on petroleum products to the state.

Earlier, Hasidah gave a briefing on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO).
