KUCHING: There are no reports on polluted water supply in the state so far, said Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

He assured that the quality of water supply in the state is safe for consumption.

“So far, I have not received any reports from related water supply agencies on matters pertaining to water pollution.

“However, we do have cases on burst water pipes due to high water pressure, low water pressure which causes water disruption to consumers as well as faulty water pumps or generators — these are normal cases,” he said.

He said this to reporters when met during his visit to the SK Matu Baru evacuation centre at Kampung Bintawa Hilir here today.

On a separate note, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman reminded the local community to continue to be on alert, especially in terms of their food and drink consumption.

“Make sure that the water you consume is already boiled and the food you take is already cooked.

“If there is a place that is still stagnant with water, please clean it so that it will not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he added.
