KUCHING: The state government is in the process of compiling data of daily paid workers and those who have been laid off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy State Secretary Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said that the purpose of compiling such data was to see in what ways help can be given to them to lessen their burden.

“We have received a lot of appeal letters from daily paid workers employed in cafes, spas, reflexology centres and saloons.

“Many of them are daily paid workers and they have been laid off or they will only be paid on the days they are called to work.

“So, we are compiling the data so that either the federal government or the state government can come in to assist them to ease their difficulties,” he said.

He said this during the Malaysia Prihatin programme with the respective DBNA branches here where the briefing was delivered by Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Willie Mongin at the DBNA headquarters today.

Ik Pahon, who is also the DBNA president, then added that he also believed that the various initiatives and assistance under the federal government’s Malaysia Prihatin programme would, in a big or small way, be able to help all layers of the society affected by the pandemic.

“Therefore, it is hoped that the respective branches who are present here today, when you go back please share the information that you have obtained so that the community will benefit from the programme,” he said.

The Malaysia Prihatin programme is a platform to share about the government’s initiatives that are available in assisting the people during the pandemic. It helps to create awareness of the dangers due to Covid-19, thereby encourages the people to register for vaccination including spreading information on the purpose of the emergency declaration in the country which is to curb the spread of the virus.
