State’s death toll now 276 with four new ones

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded four new deaths related to Covid-19 today (May 28), taking the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 276.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 273rd death was Case 39,846, a local man aged 72 years who was brought to Sri Aman Hospital as he had been experiencing fever for two weeks.

“The case was then referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment. An Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Antigen) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test were done and returned positive for Covid-19 on May 19,” they said in statement on Friday.

They said the case’s health condition deteriorated and he passed away on May 27.

They added that the case, which was linked to the Nanga Skrang Cluster, had comorbidities of high blood pressure and gout.

The committee said the 274th death was Case 44,972, a local 57-year-old woman who was brought to Sri Aman Hospital for emergency treatment as she had been experiencing difficulty breathing.

“The case was found to have experienced symptoms of fever, cough, and sore throat a few days prior. An rT-PCR test was conducted and returned positive on May 27,” they said.

SDMC said the case’s health condition declined further and she passed away on May 27, adding that the case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

As for the 275th death, they said this was Case 43,940, involving a local woman aged 89 years who was admitted to Sri Aman Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) as she had contact with a positive case.

They said the case was found to have experienced difficulty breathing and was referred to Sri Aman Hospital for treatment.

“An rT-PCR test was done and it was positive for Covid-19 on May 25. The case’s condition deteriorated and she passed away on May 27. The case had high blood pressure,” said the committee.

They said the 276th death was Case 41,151, a local 77-year-old woman who was referred to SGH as she had been found unconscious at home.

Based on her health history, they said the case had experienced fever and loss of appetite a few days before.

“An rT-PCR test was done and returned positive for Covid-19 on May 21. The case’s condition deteriorated further and she passed away on May 27,” they said.

They added that the case also had comorbidities of high blood pressure and diabetes.
