KAPIT: The Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to give priority on the interest of the state, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“As I want to set up the international schools here while those in Malaya wants to quarrel about it.

“I say in education, we have the rights as stated in the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report,” he said when officiating at the opening of Kapit Town Square on Sunday (Oct 4).

He said this is why the state will defend and protect the state’s right under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63) for the benefit of the people.

“The same goes for the case of Petronas on the state sales tax (SST). I didn’t care. I went to court and sued Petronas because we want what is rightfully ours. They pay the SST to us. Lastly, the court made the decision that we have the right,” he said.

He then said thankfully Sarawak is peaceful unlike other states where leaders fight each other over the prime minister and chief minister’s post.

“In Sarawak, the people are our top priority. That is our stand. So, let us continue to look after our unity so that we can develop Sarawak further,” he stressed.

“You don’t worry, we have the experience, GPS has the experience. We can transform Sarawak into a modern state by 2030 as long as we stay united and is fair to all races.”
