KUCHING: A statewide operation got underway on Friday to ensure motorists travel safe over the Hari Raya Aidil Adha holiday weekend.

A total of 1,279 vehicles have thus far been inspected with the enforcement authorities handing out 283 notices for various violations.

Norizan interviewed by the press.

On last night state Road Transport Department (RTD) Director Norizan Jili was on the field during Operasi Khas Motosikal to review the operation along both directions of KM18.5 Jalan Kuching-Serian.

Also present with Norizan was Sarawak AADK Director Iskandar Turkee and representative from the NRD Enforcement Division.

The joint operation mounted by  the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the National Registration Department (NRD) involved a total of 150 personnel.

“This ongoing operation will continue until next Wednesday (July 13) to ensure road users are safe while on the road when going back to their hometowns and back,” said Norizan.

He also mentioned that RTD enforcement had conducted an operation at bus terminals in Sarawak on July 7.

“Thankfully, all bus drivers tested negative for drugs and they are fit to drive their passengers to their respective destinations.

“The conditions of the buses are also satisfactory. What we were checking were the brakes and the tire conditions of the buses, so everything was good,” added Norizan.
