KUCHING: The parliamentary seats distribution for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties will remain status quo for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that the component parties will be working as one team as Sarawak interests must come first.
“Even though we do not know when the GE15 will be held, we have formed election machinery,” the GPS chairman said, adding that preparations have been made regardless of when the parliamentary polls are called.
He said this when speaking to reporters after chairing a GPS Leadership Council meeting at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday night.
Earlier, speculation have mounted over an impending parliamentary election.
GPS, which comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) was formed in 2018 after the fall of the Barisan Nasional government.
Speculation is rife that the GE15, which is due in the second half of next year, could be held as soon as November this year after Prime Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob brought forward the tabling of the national budget in Parliament from Oct 28 to Oct 7.
Among those present during meeting were SUPP president and Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, PRS president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, and PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing were also present.
Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, GPS secretary general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and GPS treasurer general Datuk Ibrahim Baki were also present.
