THE National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) actively keeps pace with evolving trends in both domestic and international substance abuse cases, ensuring that its prevention, treatment and rehabilitation strategies remain relevant and effective.

AADK offers two primary programmes for individuals grappling with drug addiction. The Institutional Treatment and Rehabilitation Programme (RPDI) is available at 30 Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Centres (PUSPEN) across the country.

Alternatively, the In-Community Treatment and Rehabilitation Programme (RPDK) operates through 108 district offices and community rehabilitation centres, allowing participants to maintain their normal daily activities, including work and family life.

Both programmes provide voluntary participation options, circumventing the need for a court order as outlined in the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act of 1983.

This approach enables individuals to voluntarily enter programmes at designated centres such as PUSPEN Sungai Besi in Kuala Lumpur, PUSPEN Jerantut in Pahang, and others located in Pulau Pinang, Kelantan, and Selangor.

Further enhancing accessibility, AADK services are also available at 29 service centres nationwide, predominantly situated in community-centric locations.

AADK’s treatment process begins with a thorough assessment of addiction severity, utilising evidence-based tools administered by trained rehabilitation officers. This method moves beyond mere urine tests, offering a more comprehensive approach to recovery.

The agency said that its services are proactive and voluntary, countering any claims that its methods are opaque or excessively forceful.
