STIDC committed to develop Sarawak’s bamboo industry

BINTULU: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the optimal utilisation of the state’s bamboo resource industry.

Its CEO Zainal Abidin Abdullah said this commitment aims to facilitate the commercialisation of the bamboo industry with improved planning and competitiveness.

“This initiative is also in line with the Sarawak Government’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030) towards Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusion, and Environmental Sustainability towards a Prosperous Sarawak,” he said.

His text speech was read out by STIDC Sustainable Resource Management Division Assistant General Manager Hamzah Morshidi during the Sarawak Bamboo Industry Awareness Programme 2023 Roadshow here on Thursday (Dec 14).

Earlier, the event featured the award ceremony for the STIDC Bamboo Craft Competition 2023, held in conjunction with the celebration of PUSAKA’s 50th anniversary.

The awards were presented to participants from the Bintulu Division, where the competition took place from September 20, 2022, to September 20, 2023.

The competition comprised categories such as Bamboo-Based Weaving Category and the Bamboo-Based Product Category.
